A Scenic Cleveland Museum of Art Engagement Session

On May 15, 2016, Taylor was working as a Community Assistant in the resident hall Exchange at The University of Akron. Noah was in town visiting his fraternity brothers, when he came into Exchange looking for a cart to help his fraternity brother move. While they were talking, Taylor noticed that he was wearing a Kappa shirt and as he walked away, she said with a smile, “Hey…by the way, Skee-YO!” Noah turned around, smiled and said, “Oh okay, I did not know you were an AKA.” The two exchanged numbers and Taylor sent her line sisters a text saying, “I found my husband!”.  That week, the pair spent almost every waking moment together until Noah had to leave to go back to North Carolina and the rest is history!

Engagement story:

I told Noah from the beginning of our relationship that I wanted our proposal to be filmed and for friends and family to be present. I had a feeling that month he was going to propose soon, I just did not know when. That day I noticed Noah acting strange, but I figured it was because we were going on vacation with family. Later that night, he told me to get dressed up for dinner and I went to my best friend’s room to get ready. I came to dinner a little irritated that Noah locked me out of our room and I remember looking at him and he was sweating. Noah looked at me, grabbed my hand, and started talking to everyone around us. I looked around and everyone now had their phones out recording and I knew this was it! Noah started to talk about how we were supposed to be friends, but at some point we were more than that. Then he said, “I called her at 4 in the morning one day and said ‘I don’t know how, and I don’t know when, but I will marry you”. He got down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and asked me to marry him. I said YES!

For the Groom:

In 2018, Taylor went on a girls’ trip cruise and I missed her like crazy. Since she was on the cruise she could only talk to me at certain times.and I thought to myself, “I can not live without this woman. I need to marry her.”  Then the planning started and I thought about something that would be magical and also around family. It was tough because we lived in Cleveland, Ohio and most of my friends and family lived in North Carolina.  I started planning a cruise a year and a half in advance for my big moment. I contacted my friends and family along with hers. I had to pick a day that would not cause suspicion so, I planned it near her birthday.  I proposed on December 13, 2019 right in the middle of the room while hidden cameras were recording. I loved seeing the smile on her face as I got down on one knee and asked her to spend the rest of her life with me.

What makes your love special?

I think what makes our love special is that through all the doubts and obstacles we always found our way back to each other. Noah and I broke up at one point and we were not speaking to each other for months.  Then one day he messaged me and we decided to “just be friends”. He moved on to another relationship and a few months later I did also. Eventually we could not ignore what we had between us and we became more than just friends. Noah and I complete each other. Where I am weak, he is strong and vise versa. We support each other and our growth within our relationship and with ourselves individually. We created such a strong bond that I know can never be broken. He’s my best friend and my soul mate all in one.

What was the theme of your shoot?

I did not really have a theme, I wanted my photographer to be able to be creative with her own taste. I am so happy with the outcome and I’m glad I gave her the artistic freedom.

Were there any memorable moments during the shoot?

Yes there were a bunch.  We came up with an inside joke where she called me Princess of Genovia (from the Princess Diaries movie). My other memorable moment would be taking pictures by the pond and a family of ducks joining us. I remember hoping they don’t attack my photographer who was getting closer to them as she was trying to get the perfect shot.

What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

I’m looking forward to seeing my fiance cry as I walk down the aisle, hearing his voice, and dancing at the reception.

Have you started planning your wedding?: Yes, planning a wedding during a pandemic is definitely a challenge, so I’m interested to see how it’s going to turn out. Regardless of how it goes, I will just be happy to marry my best friend.

Congratulations to the happy couple!  We wish you a fruitful marriage and many years of wedded bliss!
