A Baltimore Cherry Blossom Bridal Portrait Wedding Styled Shoot

It wouldn’t be spring without beautiful, petal pink cherry blossoms in full bloom. These romantic flower-adorned trees symbolize a time of renewal in Japanese culture, which makes it an idyllic backdrop for wedding events. Whether it be for a bridal shower, ceremony or reception, cherry blossoms are sure to delight your guests with their majestic and tranquil forms. Add in other whimsical symbols of love like pink roses, chardonnay, rhinestones and an ultra-feminine place setting with gold flatware, and this bridal portrait wedding styled shoot is going to inspire you. We also love the model’s gorgeous curls and off-white gown. Take a peek at this darling shoot captured by Katherine Elizabeth Photography in Maryland’s six-acre park known as Sherwood Gardens.

With help from a handful of local vendors, here is what Katherine Callahan of Katherine Elizabeth had to say about putting this beautiful, blooming bridal styled shoot together:

“Spring is my favorite season. I love watching the new growth of leaves and beautiful blossoms appear. Last year, we took the inspiration from the blossoming trees to create a spring bridal shoot here locally in Baltimore.

For those not familiar with a bridal shoot, here is a little background. A bridal portrait session is typically held a month or two before the wedding day and is primarily a southern tradition although its history may span centuries from fifteenth-century Italy, according to the Handbook to Life in Renaissance Europe (page 76).

Of course, the tradition has evolved but it still has several benefits. A typical wedding day is filled with a very tight schedule, high emotions, and a few variables outside of your control, such as the weather. Bridal portraits before your wedding day are a great opportunity to “test run” your bridal look and literally picture how everything will go together. There is more flexibility and less stress that ultimately helps you feel more at ease on your wedding day while coming away with beautiful portraits. And who doesn’t want an additional opportunity to feel like a queen in their wedding gown?

Spring is always a great time to capture beautiful portraits, and bridal portraits are no exception. But, you might need to be a little flexible, especially if you have your heart set on a cherry blossom backdrop because their peak season can shift. When most people think of cherry blossoms, they picture Washington, D.C. although in nearly every nearby city one will find blooming trees and unique backdrops without the same crowds.

Inspired by the fresh greens and pink blossoms, Baltimore provided the perfect backdrop for these spring bridal portraits. When driving through the city and surrounding areas, it’s not hard to find blooming trees in every corner you look, which is what makes this time of year so special! It’s also the perfect complement to brides, couples, and families everywhere.”
