What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

Our family and friends celebrating our union!

How they met:
I was ready to leave Atlanta. I had enough. The stories about the lack of eligible men in Atlanta was true…at least I thought. My parents were going to be in town for Thanksgiving to see my new nephew and my mother said these magic words to me “I’m going to find your husband when I come to Atlanta”.

Well, she did! As we all gathered at my step-sister’s mother-in-law’s house, I was able to meet the love of my life. My future husband is my step-sister’s brother-in-law. Yes, I know, very confusing! I didn’t meet Courtney until that day on Thanksgiving when my parents played a few rounds of spades with him. I heard my mother drilling him and then finally she shouts- “Gabby, I found your husband!”. We went on a date the next day and have been inseparable ever since.

The Proposal:

Fast forward, four years later. We’ve moved in, co-parent his daughter and of course, daily, I’m thinking when is he going to pop the question? We are on our way to another friends wedding, it’s literally been about five at this point. The unusual thing about this particular friend is that this is his third wedding to the same lovely bride (married back to back to back in different countries).

Courtney was being a bit weird this time around. He never really cared about the safe in our room, but as soon as we entered Hard Rock Cancun’s lovely suite, he sprinted to the safe. That’s when my intuition started to kick in. He asked if we could take a walk on the beach before dinner. I thought that was romantic but honestly, I was really tired from the flight. Because of this, it took me longer than usual to get ready. By the time I was done, the sunset had passed. “Do you still want to walk on the beach?”, I asked, “Yes”, his response.

As we started to walk, I noticed an unusual shaped object in his black linen pants. My heart rate increased. I thought to myself, is this really happening? The millennial in me suggested to take a selfie and that’s when he said, “No need for a selfie, you will have plenty of opportunities”. He bent down and said, “I don’t want you to attend another wedding without being engaged, are you ready to take this journey with me?”

YES! I said yes, on September 28, 2017.

I am ready to take this journey with my fiancé and I am excited to share my bridal planning journey with Black Bride for 2018! Stay tuned for my next chapter and be sure to follow me on Instagram @gabriellejoffie #winteryroadtorichards.
