Real Weddings {New York}: Kelly & Edek! – Blackbride.com

Kelly and Edek met in 2007 at the City College of New York. A mutual friend thought they would be good together and told Edek  that Kelly liked him, even though she didn’t at the time. Their friends plotting paid off and the two hit it off. Kelly and Edek planned an urban chic wedding celebration in Harlem, NY. "A friend describing our celebration called it 'exactly us'. To expound I guess I would call our wedding beautiful, yet unassuming; avant-garde, yet refined; free-spirited yet purposeful; intimate, with just enough social-media engagement. A perfect celebration of our love, our growth, and the creation of our new family," said Edek. Check out their special day captured by Reynoir Lewis.

What makes your love special?

Our love is special because we are so different. Friends refer to us as “The Creative and The Scientist”. We really compliment one another.

Engagement story:

From the Bride:

I felt so relaxed on our wedding day and just so happy to be with him. Any issues that I had beforehand just didn’t seem to matter.

From the Groom:

Simply put my wedding experience was perfect. Planning of any sort isn't without its stresses, and I'm not entirely sure if Kelly appreciated my 'zen-like' approach to crisis; 'I don't care, as long as you are there' isn't as helpful after the 5th use. It wasn't nonchalance; instead it was a confidence that regardless of what happened we would be alright.

Wedding song:

Our first dance was to “All of Me” by John Legend. Two of our friends are singers and decided on the spot to sing a song for us. It wasn’t planned, but was so perfect.

Favorite wedding detail:

I really loved the cake – which no one ate! We had a raspberry lemonade cake and Oreo cupcakes.

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?

I’m looking forward to building a life together and whatever that may bring.

Advice for a Bride/Groom on their wedding day:

My advice is to remember that the day is for you and no one else! I think couples get so wrapped up in making sure everyone else is happy. It’s important to do things that are special to you!

Congratulations to the newlyweds Kelly and Edek! We wish you many more years of wedded bliss.
