Imagine exiting your flight to see your boyfriend and your closest friends and family waiting for you in the airport. Then imagine your boyfriend asking you to be his wife in front of a bustling airport crowd. That's exactly how Steve greeted Irene on a recent flight to Atlanta. The couple have been dating long distance for almost two years and are preparing to say " I do," this fall. Check out their beautiful surprise proposal, captured by the bride's sister Iris Mannings of Iris Mannings Photography!
Bride: Irene Nwokolo, 30, Doctor
Groom: Steve Evuleocha, 31, Engineering Masters candidate
Place of residence: Louisiana
Engagement Shoot Location: Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport
Wedding date: November 2017
The Proposal Story:
I just arrived to Atlanta airport to meet Steve, who arrived an hour earlier than me as we took different flights. I was coming down the escalator and I saw huge crowd with the sign “Irene, Will You Marry Me”. I wanted to run back up the escalator because I get so shy when public things happen! Steve was waiting with flowers in one hand, and a ring in the other. My heartbeat was racing, my head spinning, and my heart was completely full of love.
From the Groom: Walk us through the behind the scenes of creating this special day:
Our beautiful day took about two months to plan. It took some consideration from quite a couple of ideas from Irene’s wonderful sisters and it really wasn't easy because Irene and I were cities apart. But somehow, Iris spontaneously suggested to propose at the airport right after Irene’s plane landed. It was the perfect idea especially since I was arriving about an hour before Irene and the rest of her family were. Benita, Irene’s sister was hiding the ring for me, slipped the ring to me just in time to surprise my Princess! We didn't expect to draw a crowd but somehow we managed to. Trust me, it wasn't easy but with so many things that flow naturally like "Love," ours was smooth and beautiful...a day I will never forget because she said...YES!
What makes your love special?
Our love is unconditional. Steve loves me in any form- after working out, after leaving the hospital in my scrubs, first thing in the morning, and last thing in the night with my hair tied up in a scarf. I feel the same about him. There are no “boundaries” with us. Agape type of love.
Tell us about your engagement shoot?
Our shoot was spontaneous. I would call it, Love at Atlanta Airport! Steve and I were lucky enough to have my sister—Iris Mannings Photography catch the amazing surprise. The photos are simply amazing. I replay this day a lot through the photos.
Were there any memorable moments during the shoot?
Holding each other in the end. I wanted that moment to last forever…I was so happy. I didn’t care who was watching. We were in the middle of the airport, and all I could see or think about was my future with Steve.
What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?
Walking down the aisle and of course our first dance!
Have you started planning your wedding?
Congratulations to the happy couple Irene and Steve! We wish you a wonderful wedding and marriage.
