Real Engagements {Alabama}: Sheena & Wardell!

Sheena and Wardell met in April 2014, when Sheena found herself overtaken by an unfamiliar feeling when Wardell walked into the clinic where she worked. "I was technically not scheduled to work but I came in to finish some paperwork. Wardell walked into my clinic and the moment I laid eyes on him I had this feeling that overcame me. I don’t believe in love at first sight but I do believe it was God nudging me to pay attention," recalled Sheena. Although the couple didn't speak during their first encounter, they would meet again soon enough. "He came back two days later to have his test read, and as he sat, we made small talk and then he left. He must have felt something too, because he circled the parking lot, walked back inside, and he politely asked me for my number," said Sheena. Since Sheena was at work, she decided not to give him her number. Instead, she told him that she had his contact number and would give him a call. "Needless to say I called, and I’m so glad I did because we’ve been together for over 2 years." Check out the happy couples romantic engagement session, captured by Ladd Photo.

Engagement story:

For my birthday which was Sept. 5 2015, all he told me was to get ready and he was going to take me on a trip but he would not tell me where. He totally surprised me. We caught a plane from Pensacola, FL to Miami, FL  (I had never rode a plane before) and then from Miami to the port to travel on the Carnival cruise ( I had never been on a cruise) to Nassau, Bahamas!  The trip alone was amazing and I was so grateful to experience so many firsts all at once, so while in Nassau when we departed the ship for the excursion in front of the beautiful Atlantis water area, he got down on one knee and asked me to become his wife, I was overjoyed and all I could do was cry, but for the first time I really understood what tears of joy felt like and I couldn’t have imagined another person I trusted as much to share my life with.

For the Groom:

Sheena and I had talked about what type of ring she liked. She wanted a rose gold ring with a halo. So she knew marriage is what we were moving towards, she just didn’t know how and when it would happen. I spoke to her parents and brother and got their permission. Then I set the plan into motion. I had a jeweler at Reeds jewelry custom make her ring. Then I booked the flight, then the cruise. I also spoke to the captain of the ship on how I wanted to propose to her on the ship. I had planned to propose to her while we were at dinner. The waiter would bring the ring out and I would make the grand gesture to propose to her. However, right before I could signal the waiter at the table literally right next to us, the guy proposed to his lady. Needless to say I couldn’t take away from their moment, so the next day when we got off the ship for the excursion with the ring in my pocket I searched and searched until I found the perfect spot in front of Atlantis.

What makes your love special?

The quote “All love is beautiful but ours is my favorite” comes to mind. You can’t really mention Sheena and Wardell and not mention GOD. The reason I say that is because there are so many different scenarios on how we couldn’t have met that day but we did (I wasn’t supposed to be working that day, he had a list of clinics he could have gone to but he came to mine and that’s only a couple of things). God brought us together. Wardell is without any doubt in my mind my soulmate. Our love is easy, we don’t have to force it, and we truly are friends. We have very similar morals and we think alike in so many ways that we can finish each other’s sentences. However, we’re different in other ways but in our differences we’re able to learn from each other. For instance, He’s more of an extrovert and I’m more of an introvert. I’m actually learning from him to be more open. We’ve also had a few trials to try to chip away at our armor like financial strain and also health problems but we just keep getting stronger and closer.

What was the theme of your shoot?

Part 1 was a downtown love story. Part 2 was #PremieringthePearsons

Were there any memorable moments during the shoot?

The whole thing was amazing our photographer Dwight Ladd did an amazing job capturing the love for one another. He also is very personable which made things easier.

What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

Mainly the ceremony, I’m a very emotional and sentimental person so the vow exchange and the moment we become one, is something I can definitely say I will cherish the most.

Congrats to Sheena and Wardell! We wish you a wonderful wedding and marriage.
