Intimate Downtown Chicago Engagement Session

Mia and Jason met while they were both attending college in Ohio, the bride at Ohio State and the groom at University of Dayton. “We had mutual friends due to the fact that we were both in black Greek letter organizations and our friends kept hinting that we would get along,” said Mia. “We were both from St. Louis, and had a myriad of similar interests.” Finally, after months of nudging from thier mutual friends Mia and Jason met for the first time at his apartment and played a game of Rock Band together….and the rest is history! Check out their fun and cozy engagement shoot, captured by Madeline Northway Photography.

Engagement Story:

Weeks prior to the proposal Jason went down to St. Louis (where we are both from) to take my parents out to dinner and ask for their blessing. He knows that family is everything to me so he didn’t want to make any moves without taking that initial step.

Since playing the video game Rock Band was the first time we met he found a way to incorporate it into the proposal. I am a sucker for indie films so we went to my favorite indie theater to check out  the film “The Lobster,” and after that was over we went back to my apt and I walked into a hallway filled with lit candles and rose petals. My first thought was “WHO WAS IN MY APARTMENT WHILE I WAS GONE!?!” Little did I know that he had reached out to my oldest friend to decorate for him while we were at the movie theater. The rose petals and candles led to the Rock Band game that was set up and he suggested that we get nostalgic for a minute and “rock out” like we used to do. We played a couple of songs and all of a sudden he dropped his drum stick. At that point I reached down to help him pick it up and he was already on one knee!

What makes your love special?

We just get each other. We don’t take each other seriously and really are friends. Having that solid base just makes things so easy!

What is the theme of your engagement shoot:

Our theme for the engagement shoot and the wedding is “Sophistaratchet and so STL.” Our wedding will be black tie but we want our guests to know that in no capacity will be stuffy. We decided to convey this by setting the tone in our engagement photos. We are dressed up, but we are still ourselves! I’m still rockin my grill, we are still eating our favorite potato chips from St. Louis, and drinking $500 champagne (an engagement gift from my boss) out of plastic cups because we are the epitome of fake fancy. As far as the engagement session we also wanted to incorporate how we met and the proposal (hence the photos of us playing the video game Rock Band)… Cause that’s just us. We also both are avid photography enthusiasts so we will allude to that as well because it is a hobby that is a big part of our relationship.

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?
Just experiencing life together; the joys, the sorrows. Being that unwavering constant as we go through life as a unit.

Congratulations to the happy couple, Mia and Jason! We wish you a wonderful wedding and marriage.
