Engagement Session: A Fashionable Washington D.C. Love Song

Angelica and Keon met at a bachelor party in the spring of 2013. And like most nights in March, it must have been like 40 degrees out. But, that didn’t stop fate. Keon was traveling in town for the party and well, Angelica just wanted to get out with one of her girls. It started off as with innocent stares across a crowded room, which turned into a little two-step. Angelica never expected to meet Mr. Right. Yet, that moment marked the beginning of a ‘Couple of Forevers.’ And while counting down the days to ‘I Do,’ Angelica and Keon celebrated their upcoming nuptials with a photo session in Washington, D.C. Take a look at how they made the day special with photos captured by AverieSun Photography.

Engagement story:

[Chorus]

Life happened. 1,832 days of life that is. We had ups, we had downs. But above all, we had each other. We loved, we cried, we laughed. We never thought that cold D.C. night would blossom into this, that we would be ‘Crazy in Love.’

Five years later, spring of ’18, time stood still.

It was the day that Keon asked Angelica for her hand in marriage. The day that three decided to become one – Keon, Angelica and Kaliyah. What started off as a beautiful NYC family trip became their ‘Happily Ever After.’

For the Groom: Walk us behind the scenes of creating this special day.

Boy, oh boy… This was hands down the biggest surprise I have orchestrated. I took a lot of secret calls, emails, and frankly, all the might in the world to keep myself from spoiling the surprise. But, I wanted to make the day extra special. So, with the help of my now fiancee’s parents, joined with mine, we took a family trip to New York City.

It started off as a bustling day in NYC that my fiancee planned literally minute-by-minute. However, little did she know, I spent countless weeks and hours planning the family dinner, which she surprisingly relinquished control over. Nonetheless, as dinner came to an end, with our parents around us, the wait staff at our favorite restaurants, Davio’s, brought out an iPad. To Angelica’s surprise, it was a video of all of our friends sending us well wishes for our 5-year anniversary. And she soon realized it was our engagement… And the rest was fate!

What makes your love special?

Our love is special because it’s both easy and not easy. We feel in love with the core of one another and that is the easy part. But, life happens and it’s important to face each part of it strong and together. And even though some days aren’t easy, it’s worth it because we chose each other as a front line warrior, as a partner, and most of all, a hero. And that is as special as it gets.

What was the theme of your shoot?

Since we love to laugh and love to love, the inspiration around our photo shoot was meant to create an environment to do just that. Us both being transplants from other hometowns, Washington, D.C. and all it’s galore was a beautiful stage, but our hearts our each other’s home. So, just having the company of each other and highlighting the bond we share is exactly what we wanted the lens to capture. Just the essence of “Key & Gel.”

Were there any memorable moments during the shoot?

Absolutely! One of our favorite memories was when Keon threw me up in his arms like the scene from “Dirty Dancing.” And though we didn’t quite look like Frances and Johnny, it reminds us every day how laughing and loving is all that matters!

What are you mos
t looking forward to about your wedding?

Oh, there are so many things we look forward to. But, if we had to narrow it down, we look forward to that moment when we walk back down the aisle as husband and wife. It represents us walking into our future; just the two of us, with the love of our family and friends surrounding us.

Have you started planning your wedding?

Yes! And we are overjoyed. The experience has been full of highs and a few lows. But, the beauty is in how love conquers all. This process has taught us the importance of teamwork, compromise and just being excited for what the future holds.

Congratulations to the happy couple! We wish you a fruitful marriage and many years of wedded bliss.
