A Perfect Match: An Engagement Session in Jacksonville, FL

True love is often built on friendship. When Alexis and Darrius met in January 2013 at an afterschool program where they both worked, they became great friends after a somewhat rocky start.  A year later when Alexis moved back from college, the two decided to take their friendship to the next level and they have been together ever since!  The lovely pair celebrated their upcoming nuptials with a chic engagement session captured by Angelica of Pompy Portraits Photography.

Bride: Alexis Green, 30, Elementary School Teacher

Engagement story:

It was a Saturday and we started the day by driving to St. Augustine. We went to a wine tasting and on an amazing horse and carriage ride. Once we came back, our home was decorated with red balloons and pictures of us attached to them while our parents greeted us with smiles. I was shocked to say the least and then I caught on! I bent down with tears rolling down my face as Darrius dropped to one knee and Beauty and the Beast’s “Tale As Old As Time” was playing in the background. Of course, I said yes!! But the surprise wasn’t over. I was led to our balcony where all of our family and friends were waiting with excitement. They thought they were coming over for a “quarantine” birthday drive thru but were surprised when they saw the sign that said, “She said yes!” I was overwhelmed with joy. Everything was absolutely perfect!

For the Groom: Walk us through the behind the scenes of creating this special day:

My stomach was in knots! I had been planning the proposal for months and I wanted it to be special (like every man does).  I had plenty of help from my sisters-in-law and he best friend who decorated the apartment while we went on a romantic getaway to St. Augustine.   When we came in I was blown away by how the girls had turned our apartment into a love space that I didn’t even recognize.  Everything was beyond my expectations including her reaction.

What makes your love special?

Our love is special because we can truly be ourselves. When we are together nothing else matters. The laughter never stops, and the love grows fonder every day.

What was the theme of your shoot?

We picked the coldest day of the year to take our pictures, and once we got to the rooftop tears were coming out of my eyes from the wind.  We were actually worried about how they might come out but they turned out to be some of our favorite shots. We didn’t have an exact theme. We knew we wanted our photos to show how much we love each other and how happy we are to share that love with the world.

Were there any memorable moments during the shoot?

The shoot as a whole was very memorable. We’ve been waiting on this moment for so long and being that we’re finally living in it is amazing!

What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

I think the biggest thing we are looking forward to is simple…being married! We can’t wait to start the journey to our forever.

Have you started planning your wedding?

Yes, we have already started planning and our big day will be here before we know it!

Congratulations to the happy couple! We wish them a fruitful marriage and many years of wedded bliss!
