A Tropical Engagement Session in Miami, FL

Rroya-rae and Jordan’s love story began in 2013 when they originally met at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. However, the two were only acquaintances during that time. After Rroya graduated in 2016 and moved to northern Virginia, they reconnected on Snapchat. They’ve spoken every day since then and have now been together for four years! Engagement story

We got engaged in March of 2021. Jordan told me we were going out to dinner to finally meet his mentor. I’ve only heard of this mysterious, extremely knowledgeable man but never actually given the opportunity to meet him in person. On the way to the restaurant in Manhattan, he even got a text from him saying to just give his name at the door because he was running a little late. Shortly after we arrived & were seated, he got down on one knee and proposed in front of a beautiful view of central park.

For the Groom: Walk us through the behind the scenes of creating this special day

The engagement was very tricky as my now fiancé is quite observant. I knew that if everything wasn’t organized properly then it would end up being a mess. I knew that she had a couple friends that she for sure wanted to be around when she got engaged, but one pretty far away. Luckily that friend happened to be visiting New York so I knew this would be my opportunity. I found a restaurant around where I wanted to take pictures afterwards but I had to tell her that we were meeting my mentor for dinner in order not to give everything away.

I also knew that Rroya would be on guard while her friend was visiting, so I had to make Rroya drop her friend off at the airport at the end of her trip. I then had to pick her friend up after just to make Rroya think she was really gone. I was so scared that she would suspect something that I didn’t even get a haircut for the big proposal!

While we were on the way to the restaurant I had my mentor text me saying that he would be running a little late just in case Rroya was still somehow suspicious. We showed up to the restaurant where Rroya’s friend, who I picked up from the airport and one of my closest friends were waiting along with the videographer (who is also one of my close friends). We were seated and then the waiter greeted us and told us he would be right out with menus. I couldn’t wait any longer and right after the waiter left us, I gave the videographer the signal and the rest is history!

Were there any memorable moments during the shoot?

We couldn’t for the life of us think of any joke to tell one another. We ended up laughing every time at how badly we were failing at thinking of funny jokes. Clearly we would both fail miserably at stand up.

What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

We are both looking forward to being back home in Jamaica! We are both Jamaicans and have such a deep love for the country that it was only fitting to have our wedding there. We can’t wait to showcase our beautiful island to all our favorite people.

Congratulations to the happy couple! We wish them many years of wedded bliss!
