Journey To The Aisle: A Wedding “Planner Bride” Series by Ashley Miller: Scene 9

I’m so glad you decided to join me for Scene 9 of my “Journey to the Aisle” series. Let’s talk custom gowns. I know the 1st think you are thinking is, “I can't afford a custom wedding dress”. How do you know? Have you researched the options? Have you consulted with a gown designer?

I knew I wanted my wedding gown to be one of a kind and I didn’t want to visit several bridal boutiques to try on a million dresses. For some brides, the hunt of the gown is one of the wedding planning milestones they look forward to. As a planner, I knew custom didn’t mean $10,000 for what I envisioned. I knew I wanted “her” (my gown) to be the following: sexy, fitted to my body, ivory, timeless, elegant, lace incorporated, and something I could dance in.

I wanted my wedding gown experience to be personal and intimate. To accomplish this task I knew I needed a gown designer and a bridal stylist. My gown designer, Natt Taylor, always booked my fittings where I was the only bride in her studio. I really appreciated this gesture because it allowed me and my guests the time to enjoy the process; no rush, no other entourages, no crowds. My bridal stylist, Abbria, was heaven sent providing accessory options, undergarment suggestions ,styling critiques, and assisting with my bridal party attire. I knew these two ladies would be sure my wedding crew were fabulous on my wedding day.

To see my wedding gown come together has been AMAZING; custom sketches, measurements, selecting fabrics, sample dress fittings, lace application, and everything in between. My final fitting is today so my excitement is through the roof. I’m so thrilled to put “her” on and meet my Hunny at the end of the aisle in just a few weeks.

If you have a vision of how you want your wedding gown to look, think about going custom. Here are some tips to get you started:

  • Look for a wedding gown designer. Internet search, fashion design schools, even costume shops know great seamstress.
  • Start pulling photos of gowns you love and be able to explain which of those elements you want to incorporate into your wedding gown.

See you in two weeks; same time, same day.

Planner Tip: Depending on the complexity of details you want for your dress, some designers may be able to create your gown for less than the bridal salon price tag.
