Real Weddings {New York}: Kenisha & David!

Kenisha and David love story begins with a bit of divine intervention. The couple met at church in 2006 and became friends. Shortly after,  David moved out of state to attend college and the two lost touch. Fortunately they were able to reconnect through social media. "One day he asked me to go boating in the park and I said yes. We were inseparable ever since," said Kenisha. Check out their royal New York wedding capture by Alex Kaplan Photography!

Engagement story:

It was New Year’s Eve and we were at a gala at Dream Downtown, a hip hotel and lounge in NYC. As we were enjoying the party David pulled me away from the crowd to a quiet corner and then got down on one knee. I was shocked and ecstatic!

From the Bride:

I wasn’t nervous about marrying David, but I was nervous about everything going well. I had planned the entire wedding myself, and of course it was my first time doing so! Luckily my beloved friends were by my side as bridesmaids and helped ease my nerves. I also had an awesome Day-of-Coordinator. As soon I arrived to the wedding and looked down the aisle and saw David my nerves vanished. The wedding was spectacular, and many of our guests said it was the best wedding they have ever attended.

From the Groom:

I had a blast at our wedding. It was a great feeling knowing that all those people traveled from far and wide just for us. I was happy knowing that from that day forward Kenisha was my wife.

What makes your love special:

Our love is special because it is so strong. Not only are we partners we are friends. No matter what we have each others back.

Most memorable moment:

Our most memorable moment was our Nigerian money dance. During our wedding reception, we had the DJ play some upbeat Nigerian hits and we danced while our loved ones threw money on us. It was amazing to have this fun Nigerian custom in our wedding.

Wedding song:

Our wedding song was African Queen, by 2Face. We chose this song because it was a song David used to sing to me when we first started dating. The sing African Queen is Afrocentric with a Caribbean feel making it a perfect choice for our Nigerian and Caribbean themed wedding.

Favorite wedding detail:

Our pineapple Pina Coladas was our favorite wedding detail. The drink consisted of frozen pina coladas served out of real pineapples. We have had the drink at several festivals around NYC and knew we had to have them at our wedding. They were a hit with our guests.

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?

We are looking forward to traveling the world together and having children one day.

Advice for a Bride/Groom on their wedding day:

When the big day arrives, bask in every second of it. The day will be over before you know it, so don’t stress about a thing at the wedding. Enjoy it!

Congratulations to the newlyweds! Wish you many more years of wedded bliss.
