Real Engagements {Brooklyn}: Augusta & Casey!

When Augusta and Casey first met at a mutual friend's party, their conversation was very brief and the chances of these two perfect strangers seeing each other again seemed slim to none. "We said hello and that was all. We never saw each other again for another two years," said Augusta. In 2011, the same mutual friend hosted another party, and this time Augusta was determined to leave a lasting impression. "I walked into the venue and there he was. I made my way to him to say hello and the rest was history," said Augusta. The happy couple have been together for 5 years and are planning their dream wedding for next fall. Engagement story:

Casey told me that we would be attending a yacht party. I made sure that I was dressed and ready to go on time. When we arrived at the Brooklyn Bridge Walkway, I was taken aback by the breathtaking views of the Brooklyn Bridge. Casey took pictures of me and I took pictures of him. Casey then walked back towards me and grabbed my hand and began to speak. Unbeknownst to me (of course), Casey hired a professional photographer. At that same moment, I noticed the photographer moving in closer on us. I then realized what was happening. In my head I exclaimed, “OH MY GOD!! THIS IS IT!” and then I began to cry. While Casey was speaking I was balling so I couldn’t make out everything he was saying. I stopped for a second and that’s when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was in shock. I can only describe that moment as an out of body experience. Words can’t express how happy I was in that moment.

Afterwards, I tried calling my family and friends and most of them didn’t respond. I was wondering why no one was available. Casey then said that we were going to dinner to celebrate. When we arrived at the restaurant we had to wait a couple of minutes before we could be seated. The hostess finally came to tell us that our table was ready. I didn’t see any available tables so I figured we would be seated in a private room. As we approached the room, I noticed the lights were dim. When I walked in, I heard “SURPRISE,” and saw nothing but the lights from cameras flashing. Casey threw a surprise engagement party and invited our closet family and friends. I was in shock and started to cry again. I was so happy to see everyone. My brother and sister flew in from Los Angeles to surprise me. I felt so loved! Its truly a moment I will never forget!

From the Groom: Walk us through the behind the scenes of creating this special day.

I asked Augusta’s parents for permission to marry her earlier in the year and I received their blessings. From that moment, I started planning. I wasn’t sure of exactly what I wanted to do; I just knew that I wanted her family there because I know how close they are. The plan was to propose followed by a surprise engagement dinner to be attended by our close family and friends. The original place I planned to propose became unavailable at the last minute so I had a few days to find a new location. I also had to maintain the secret of her siblings being in town for the surprise. Ultimately, I was able to find a great location that was special to us and everything went smoothly as planned.
