Real Engagements {Minneapolis}: Jareesa & William! – Blackbride.com

It was love at first "Tweet" for Jareesa and William, who met on Twitter in 2012! "I used to do a Question of the Day and one day he answered it. From that tweet, we began to speak regularly on Twitter, and that led to private messages, then email/Gchat, then phone and Skype calls. We spent a year getting to know each other long distance before we met in person at the DMV Twitter Cookout in June 2013. We got a chance to spend time together and we realized there was a connection, and we began dating long-distance, with William in DC and me in Minneapolis," recalls Jareesa. Jareesa and William are planning a "Nerd" themed wedding next spring in Minneapolis. Check out their collegiate themed engagement session, captured by Studio 220!

Engagement story from the bride-to-be :

After dating long-distance for almost a year, William moved to Minneapolis in May 2014. We decided to road-trip instead of shipping his items. Two days after the road-trip, William tells me to meet him at a sushi restaurant after work; this restaurant was special because it was the place he asked me to be his girlfriend. When I arrived, a friend of mine joined me, and after some small talk, she told me she had the next clue for my scavenger hunt. I started to get excited and curious about what else he had planned! My next stop was the restaurant where we celebrated Valentine’s Day, and another friend was waiting for me there. She directed me to Loring Park in downtown Minneapolis, where I met William. We strolled through the park and reached the lake in the middle of the park. We sat on the dock and talked…and then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I happily said yes and after he put the ring on my finger and we hugged, he told me to look behind the trees. Turns out our friends were all in the park, documenting the proposal! Afterwards we all celebrated our engagement at a nearby restaurant.

For the Groom: Walk us through the behind the scenes of creating this special day:

The plan was to make my proposal memorable, so I had to come up with something that was out of the ordinary. So I searched Yahoo videos to get inspiration from other proposals. I devised a plan that involved her friends and would be able to be kept a secret. The plan was relatively simple, to have her search for things. I consulted with her friends and figured out who was available to help me surprise her.

What was the theme of your Engagement session?:

We went with a collegiate theme for our engagement session, with a twist. We’re both nerds – I have two degrees in chemistry and William has 2 degrees in mathematics. We thought it would be fun to have our photos taken on the University of Minnesota campus (my alma mater) in front of various landmarks on campus, including the math and chemistry buildings. The twist is the incorporation of our Greek organizations – I am a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc and William is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. We showed our “Indiana Love” by wearing Greek cardigans in our engagement shoot.

What makes your love special?:

Our love is special because we’re not only romantic partners, we’re friends. We took the time to develop a friendship before we began to date, and we genuinely enjoy each other. We have a strong connection and we have fun together. Best of all, we can be 100% ourselves with each other and we both accept the other for who they are.

What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?:

Sharing this special moment with our friends and family, and celebrating with our nerdy touches.

Have you started planning your wedding?

We’re getting married on Pi Day – March 14, 2015. We’re both nerds and we love the idea of getting married on the nerdiest day of the year. Our theme for the wedding is “nerd love” and we’ll have several non-traditional but nerdy touches for our guests. We’re also going to jump the broom and have serenades from our fraternity & sorority.

Congratulations to Jareesa and William! We wish you a wonderful wedding and marriage.
