Real Weddings {Georgia}: Akeila & Jorian! – Blackbride.com

Akeila and Jorian have known each other since they were kids. They attended the same schools and even grew up in the same neighborhood. Akeila and Jorian were even high school sweethearts. Even though the two would eventually be together, Akeila had no intention of making it easy for Jorian. "Growing up I didn't care for Jorian, I always thought he was a ladies man. I would tell him he was a player and he would never get my number. I finally gave in the summer of 2002," recalls Akeila. However, Jorian has a slightly different version of their love story. "I followed my gut and asked her out the summer of 2002. Of course she played hard to get. She made me call for about three days until she finally said yes. I would always tell my friends she would be my wife one day, and we’ve been inseparable since," said Jorian. The two childhood friends turned soul mates, celebrated their union with a southern rustic themed wedding at The Cotton Warehouse, in Monroe, GA. Check out their special day captured by Glen Wilson of Pixel This Photography.

Bride: Akeila Tripp, 29, Storage Administrator

Groom: Jorian Goolsby 29, Stay at home dad.

Place of residence: Atlanta, GA

Wedding date:10/12/13

Honeymoon Destination: Nassau Bahamas

Engagement story :

My mom and my brother (the best man) helped me pick out the ring the day before.Keila was overdue on her delivery with our first daughter. Having major contractions and pains, she woke up to me getting dressed to start my day. I asked her, "Keila, didn't you just clean the bathroom?" She replied, yes and began to walk to see what type of mess the bathroom was in. When she walked in there, I was sitting on the tub as if he was about to clean it. She proceeded to the sink to wash her face and bush her teeth and found her engagement ring sitting on the bathroom counter. She fell into my lap and cried like a baby. I didn’t even have to ask, of course she said yes, and I replied, "quit crying, leave something for the baby to do." That day was a good day. She didn't feel much contractions or pain afterwards. She immediately grabbed her phone to tell everyone the big news. The next day our beautiful daughter Jori was born (02/28/12).

From the Groom:

The morning of the wedding was a little overwhelming. All I could think about was I didn’t want to make a mistake and upset the bride, a happy bride is a good bride. I had to make sure that LITTLE list of responsibilities she gave me was complete. I didn’t want to let her down. I felt better once I arrived at the venue because I knew I was only a few hours away from making my high school sweet heart my wife.

From the Bride:

Planning a wedding by yourself isn’t an easy task. It’s literally a second job. If I had to do it again I would definitely hire a wedding planner. The day of the wedding was surreal. I could believe it, but then again I couldn’t. I wanted everything to be perfect, so that’s when the nerves and anxiousness kicked in. Once I heard the starting music I knew it was time.

What makes your love special?

Our love is special because it’s so cliche’. Puppy love turned into real unconditional love. We were always told we made a cute couple in high school, and that we were going to marry one day. Of course we didn’t believe it at the time. After 11 years together it happened.

Wedding Details:

We wanted to have a vintage, rustic, shabby, chic wedding; hence the venue we chose (The Cotton Warehouse). We even had the father of the bride bring down his 57 Chevrolet to top it off. We knew we wanted peach to be a color since we are both from GA. We chose peach and plum after changing it over a million times. Family and friends were like…. um ok, if you say so, but they saw our vision pull together in the end. Wedding planning was a second job, but the bride did it all by herself without a wedding planner. It was a lovely beautiful day.

Wedding song, explain choice for song:

Giving Myself by Jennifer Hudson. This song seemed perfect to walk down the aisle because it stated exactly what I was about to do.

You and I by Avant and KeKe Wyatt. This song was chosen as our first dance song because we felt the lyrics spoke into our souls and defined our relationship as a whole.

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?

Just being able to own the responsibilities of being joined as one, under the oath of God. We’ve been together for a long time, so we are looking forward to creating and sharing even more loving memories together.

Advice for a Bride/Groom on their wedding day:

It will fly by so quickly. Take a moment and enjoy every second together. Hire a great videographer because you will definitely want to see your big day on the big screen.

Congrats to newlyweds Akeila and Jorian! We wish you many more years of wedded bliss!
