Althea Gaskin Feurich is the creator of Gaskin Feurich Designs, a line of lingerie made from silk and lace. Althea's colorful garments are designed with the curvy girl in mind. Each piece features bold colors and intricate details that accentuates a woman's curves. Althea saw a void in the lingerie market for full figured women and decided to fill it with her creative custom designs. Check out our interview with Althea below!

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started in the lingerie industry?
I am a native of Trinidad & Tobago and I grew up in Maryland where I also raised my family. In the early 1980's I started Interior Designing and sewing for a few clients. Once the kids were older and moved out on their own I moved to New York and attended the Fashion Institute of Technology and earned my BFA in Interior Design. Trying to find nice clothes that fit well is what started me on my way to developing fashion that was flattering. I’ve been sewing since I was a young girl and I was inspired to create the kind of garments that I would always searching for.
2. What was your inspiration behind your latest collection?
This lingerie collection was inspired by the lack of colors and styles available in larger sizes. My philosophy is that women of all body types want to feel and look beautiful.
3. Describe your current designs in three words.
4. Were there any new themes, ideas, or techniques that you used in this collection that you hadn't used in the past?
Using lace in my designs was new for me. I was afraid that the lace was going to over shadow the pieces, but instead it brought out exactly what I needed them to say, which was that the wearer of this garment is strong , confident, and in control of herself and her life.
5. What kind of bride would wear your designs?
The bride that has the final secret to end the night with her significant other once they are alone. The bride who says this is for me, because everyone else had a hand in the preparation, but this is something she chooses for herself.
6. What is your favorite part about designing lingerie?
My favorite part about designing is being able to pickup one of my sketch books when an inspiration hits me, choosing the fabrics and working on the design process of making it a reality.
7. What makes your lingerie collection different?
I love colors. My head is always swimming with ideas. I design from sizes 0 to XXL, and I also do custom sizes and designs.
8. How has your personal experiences influenced your designs?
I am also a full figured woman who understands the dilemma of finding something that’s flattering for my body type.
9. Do you have any tips for women who are looking to purchase the perfect lingerie?
Never settle. Don’t be afraid of trying something new and different. Color is your friend!
