Flashback Friday: Real Weddings {Reality Stars NYC}: Kimberly and Alaska! – Blackbride.com

You've seen this power couple on Bravo’s hit T.V. show “Newlyweds: The First Year,” sharing all the ups and downs of their first year of marriage with the world! Two years later and Kim and Alaska Gedeon are still deeply in love and taking over the world- together!   Kim and Alaska a.k.a. Kilaska met in 2004 at Lotus Night Club at a mutual friend's party. It wasn't love at first sight, but after bumping into each other at various industry events, they realized they had a lot of friends in common and a friendship blossomed shortly after. They were friends for a year before Alaska asked Kimberly to be his girlfriend. The couple dated for five years before Alaska popped the question. Check out their super glamorous, intimate NYC nuptials at 632 on Hudson.

Bride: Kimberly V Gedeon, Celebrity Fashion Stylist, 29

Groom:  J. Alaska Gedeon, CEO of BLAKBOOK MGMT, Executive A&R at Atlantic Records, 32

Place of residence: Bi-coastal NY- LA

Wedding date: 10/14/2011

Honeymoon Destination: Four Seasons Punta Mita, Mexico

Engagement story (From the bride):

At the time I was in the thick of the busiest styling season of my career. I was super stressed trying to plan Alaska's BIG surprise 30th birthday party which I had no idea the biggest surprise was going to be on ME!  In the midst of the birthday party (which I do every year by the way) Alaska gathered the crowd midway way through the evening to thank everyone for coming out to celebrate (or at least that’s what I thought he was doing!)  but in fact he told a cute story about how I'm the best girlfriend etc. He mentioned that I'm not an ordinary girl.. Alaska then said “most girls want a CHANEL Bag but Kim wants a CHANEL book bag. Most girls want a diamond ring, but KIM wants a BLACK DIAMOND ring. This is why I got my girl a Black Diamond, KIM WILL YOU MARRY ME!!!” BOOM. I literally was shocked then fell to the floor crying.

From the Groom:

I was totally anxious the whole time. But the moment I saw Kim walking down the stairs/aisle towards me, I just focused on her beauty (which is so much more than just her physical beauty,) and the blessing that I had KIM standing next to me in front of GOD, our friends and family to take vows to become my WIFE. I have a pretty terrible memory, but could never forget that feeling.

From the Bride:

The wedding experience was beautiful but most of all stressful! The actual wedding day was hectic but I was very calm. Although there were the craziest problems popping out of the blue I was okay with all of it because I knew at the end of the day I was going to be Mrs. Gedeon.

Favorite wedding detail:

I loved my wedding invitations, and the venue. Every room had its own unique theme, from the Marie Antoinette bridal room, the basement was a “speak easy,” the Groom's Chambers were a custom Asian Ming style décor.  I entered the room from my bridal room on the second floor balcony, overlooking the large atrium space below where the ceremony took place.  The whole room was drenched in and lit by candles . Most of all my Floral Bouquet wasn't typical. It was actually a custom floral muff that I designed myself. My invitations were designed in India and were printed in silver foil on a Black Velvet Scroll tucked into a fabulous pewter  box.

Wedding song:

"Chrisette Michelle – “Golden” The words are self explanatory."- Kimberly

What makes your love special?

What makes our love special is that we organically nurtured our friendship for a long time, which grew into unconditional love. Our relationship is founded on GOD, respect and trust. Only with true friendship can you be completely transparent with one another. Which creates an unbreakable foundation.

Advice for a Bride/Groom on their wedding day:

Live in the moment! Don't allow anyone around you who will distract you or stress you out before you say “I DO!”  And definitely have a nice playlist of music going, drinks, a light breakfast, and only people that will bring good vibes on YOUR day.

We wish Kimberly and Alaska a Happy Anniversary as they celebrate their second year of marriage this month!  Keep up with this fabulous power couple on twitter @mskimberlyv and @alaskasabrand.
