Celebrity photographer Drexina Nelson began her career in Atlanta as a makeup artist for some of the city’s most prominent photographers. Upon completing both her B.A. and M.B.A. degrees at Clark Atlanta University, she opted to pursue a career in photography where she could combine her love for beauty and the arts, her keen eye for composition and style, and her knowledge of business. Her transition from makeup to photography proved to be a wise choice, thus opening the doors to her own studio, “Drexina Nelson Photography.” Drexina has had the privilege of capturing some of the most beautiful and talented people in the world of entertainment , including Nene Leakes, Cynthia Bailey, Tracee Ellis Ross, Lance Gross, K. Michelle and the list goes on and on. We got a chance to catch up with Drexina and chat with her about life as a celebrity photographer, tips for brides and grooms and we got a behind the scenes look at the luxurious wedding of Gregg and Nene Leakes!

1. What kind of services do you offer?
DNProductions is a full service photo production studio in Atlanta, Georgia. We have a team of image experts that can meet any photography needs. We are also staffed with some of Atlanta’s greatest stylist ranging from hairstylist, makeup, and wardrobe. I personally specialize in Beauty, fashion, and Advertising imagery.
2. What makes you different from other photographers on the scene?
I do not believe in a specific style. I believe that my style is capturing the essence of my clients, and shooting imagery that is timeless. I also believe in 100% professionalism to get the job done no matter who my client is. In my book everyone is a superstar!
3. What tips or advice would you offer to brides /Grooms who are looking for celebrity photo shoot experience?
Research is key. Make sure to find a PROFESSIONAL photographer that has extensive experience shooting celebrities because most celebrity photographers are great working under pressure. Also, understand that all photographers are not created equal. Ensure that your selected photographer is capable of creating the overall look that you are in search of as well as that they are experienced at hiring the proper team.
4. What is your favorite part about what you do?
My favorite part of my job is making people look beautiful, and capturing it for them to see for years to come.
5. Tell us about your shoot with Nene and Gregg? Did you have any memorable moments?
I love shooting with Nene and Gregg! They are such a down to earth and an amazing couple. He is the yin to her yang. A perfect fit! So of course if the couple has great chemistry, it makes my job that much easier. Nene and Gregg have lots of energy and she’s a perfectionist, and is going to work with you to ensure that you get the right shot! I had the opportunity to work with them multiple times for their engagement photoshoot as well as the wedding! I was more than honored when Nene called and asked me to shoot her wedding. She is so awesome, and it is always a pleasure working with them!
6. Who are your favorite celebrity clients?
I have so many! Don’t want to leave anyone out so I will say that I love all of my celeb clients! I love shooting celebrities because there is a certain confidence that one must have to be in the limelight, and it shines through in each celebrity that I have shot to date!
