Alterations
Alterations, even minor ones, are usually an extra charge at bridal salons. Make sure you keep this in mind as you are you are trying to decide which gown will be the perfect one for your wedding day. Purchase a gown that fits your present size even if you plan to diet. It is much easier to take a dress in than to take a dress out.

BlackBride.com offers these tips for you when either using the alteration services from the store you purchase your gown at or when you visit with an independent seamstress.

1)Purchase a gown that fits your present size even if you plan to diet. It is much easier to take a dress in than to take a dress out.

2)Ask to see samples of the actual alterations done on bridal gowns. Check the stitching, finished seams, and quality of materials used.

3)Ask to have an estimate, in writing, of all work to be done on your gown. Check to see if the seamstress or the bride supplies the sewing materials for the gown. Ask if the gown will also be pressed when alterations are completed and if there is a charge for the pressing.

4) Get references! Ask to see photos of wedding gowns and call brides to check how satisfied they were with the work done on their gowns.

5) Expect 2-3 fittings for a gown purchased in a salon. If your gown is being custom designed, expect to have several fittings throughout the process.

6) When attending an appointment for alterations, be sure to wear the actual shoes and the undergarments that you will wear with the gown so that it can be altered correctly.
