One-of-a-kind wedding cake toppers for your special day. Shireena Celebration Sculptures captures those irreplaceable moments - an expectant mother, a child reaching for it's first toy, first communion, prom, graduation, and that most special of all days - the WEDDING. . . in lifelike miniature sculptures.
Shireena Celebration Sculptures started several years ago when, Joy, a mother-of-the-bride went to art show opening of Carol Shireena Sakai, a friend of the family. Joy was frantic because her daughter Hildy could not find a custom wedding cake topper. Hildy, and her fiance Cesar were a mixed racial couple and definitely did not want the traditional cake topper. Hildy is blond, brown eyed bride of European descent, while Cesar with his dark chocolate complexion and short goatee and is of Filipino ancestry. The bride would be wearing a white, strapless full length pleated gown, the groom, a traditional Filipino formal wear - barong tagalog, cool, almost transparent, embroidered shirt, worn untucked, over black pants. The couple wanted a cake topper that was nontraditional - a sculpture which reflected their fun and playful nature - they wanted to include their dog also!
Carol Shireena Sakai is a nationally recognized portrait artist and sculptor. Her previous training was as scientist with a Ph.D. in Medical Physiology and she has a strong background in figurative anatomy. She asked that the couple submit several pictures of themselves in the three major sculpture angles of the face (1) full face, (2) profile and (3) 3/4 view, and also include full length pictures of themselves and their wedding attire. From the details of the photos she recreated a miniature likeness of themselves and their dog. To create a fun look, the faces were made slightly larger in proportion to their bodies. The sculptures were created in polymer clay, a ceramic-like modeling compound, and were hand painted and glazed.
Since the first cake topper for Hildy and Cesar, Carol Shireena Sakai has created many cake toppers for multi-racial and black couples displayed on her Web site at http://www.carolsakai.com .
Each cake topper sculpture is created and finished by hand. And because each is a one-of-a-kind work of art created specifically for the couples, the fine details of individuals are captured. The sculptures are a wonderful keepsake and meant to last a lifetime. - Carol Shireena Sakai, Shireena Celebration Sculptures |
