Real Engagements {New Orleans}: Kendacey & Willie! – Blackbride.com

Kendacey and Willie met their sophomore year at the University of Oklahoma through a mutual friend, who is now also a bridesmaid in their wedding. "She talked a lot about her boyfriend’s roommate and how I really needed to meet him. At the time I only knew of him but didn’t know much about him. I told her she could give him my number and I wasn’t really expecting him to call since we had never met before. Well, he called and we dated, fell in love and now we’re headed to the chapel," said Kendacey. Kendacey and Willie  are planning a fall wedding this year in Dallas, TX. Check out their sweet outdoor engagement session at the Audubon Park in New Orleans, LA, captured by With Love, Quinntography.

Engagement story from the bride-to-b:

First, I want to say that I knew something was up! My fiancé will swear that I knew nothing but I had a feeling. In his defense I can only say that after finally putting all the details of that week together. My best friend lives in NYC and happened to be visiting our hometown for a wedding I was in. Well, my fiancé was supposed to come as my guest but two weeks before the wedding he decided he couldn’t make it. He lived in Baton Rouge and I was in Tulsa so I completely understood. The day before the wedding I was extremely exhausted and tired from a horrible day at work and preparation for my friend’s wedding the next day. I received a huge bouquet of roses at my job that day and in my mind it was just a super cute and thoughtful gesture from my fiancé, no big deal. That was just the beginning. After work and the rehearsal dinner I was extremely tired and exhausted but my friends insisted we hang out and demanded that I stay awake. I called them multiple times for an hour and NONE of them answered the phone. I even called my fiancé multiple times to vent, and of course he didn't answer. Needless to say, I was pissed and completely done for the night. Out of the blue, one of my friends called and said I absolutely had to ride with her because another friend was in trouble and needed help. They were clearly lying considering we ended up at the Riverside Bridge, “for a graduation party” or so I thought. When we approached the bridge, I could see flowers, balloons and candles along with my family and closest friends. My fiancé was waiting for me at the end of bridge entrance. I screamed, “I knew it” and immediately burst in to tears. We kissed, he asked, and I said, “Yes."

For the Groom: Walk us through the behind the scenes of creating this special day:

She wanted me to come to her friend's wedding and I told her I wouldn't be able to make it because I had to work, even though I knew I'd be able to come. It was the perfect weekend to propose since I knew all of her friends were coming back in town. Some of her friends and I set up at a bridge where her and her friends hang out. After the rehearsal dinner, they helped me lure her to this bridge where we were all sitting there waiting with balloons, candles and flowers. She was incredibly surprised to see me. I got on one knee and the rest was history!

What was the theme of your Engagement session:

I love details! We also wanted something different than the typical engagement session. We had a few other themes planned but didn’t get a chance to pull them together but I definitely wanted a table display that was detailed and romantic.

What makes your love special?

We’re best friends. We make each other laugh and have a ton of fun together. I think it’s important to have someone you are 100% comfortable with the whole way through.

What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

Eating cake… Just kidding! I can’t wait to say my personalized vows to God and my fiancé. We’ve been together for a long time and ‘forever’ already feels natural but something about sealing it with a vow before God gets me super excited. But I’m not going to lie, eating expensive and delicious wedding cake is a close second. LOL

Have you started planning your wedding?

I started planning about a month after our engagement to get a head start. We live in Louisiana so we’re really interested in incorporating some of the beautiful culture of the bayou!

Congrats to the happy couple Kendacey and Willie! We wish you a wonderful wedding and marriage.
