Real Engagements {Houston}: Michelle & Robert! – Blackbride.com

Michelle and Robert met through mutual friends (his best man Maurice and her maid of honor Nicole) during 2011. "I was living in Houston at the time and working on my Master’s degree and I came to Atlanta for the weekend to visit my friends. I had a great weekend and on my last night in Atlanta; I was staying at Nicole’s house and we decided to stay in. Nicole invited our friend Maurice over and it just so happened he brought his best friend Rob with him. Rob was also visiting Atlanta during that same weekend from Alabama. We were all just hanging out in a relaxed group setting, so we did get a chance to talk a little bit and briefly got to know each other," recalled Michelle. Turns out that the two perfect strangers had several things in common. They both went to undergrad in Kentucky, enjoy traveling, and they were both looking to move from their current cities. "I wasn’t in the position to start anything serious at the time and neither was he. At the end of the night we exchanged numbers. Rob and I kept in touch occasionally by texting throughout a year and a half," said Michelle. In the summer of 2012, Michelle moved back to Kentucky for a job and her friend Maurice invited her to a party in Lexington, KY.  Rob just so happen to be at the party as well. "There was an instant spark! I didn’t remember him being so cute. We talked briefly at the party and Rob called me a couple of days later. The rest is history and we have been together ever since. I always say it was love at “second sight!," said Michelle. The two are planning a "Classic Blush Affair" themed wedding this summer during 4th of July weekend at The Sam Houston Hotel in Houston, TX. Engagement story from the bride-to-be :

We planned a fun couples trip with my close friends from high school to New Orleans for Memorial Day weekend. New Orleans is such a high energy and enjoyable city so we had a lot of fun! On our last day there, we had a great day. We went on a swamp boat tour. When we returned from the swamp boat tour, Rob told me that he had made dinner reservations for the two of us. He wouldn’t tell me where but he did say that it was a nice restaurant. I told my friends that we were going to dinner and we would meet up with the group later on in the evening. We went to eat at the restaurant Commander Captain. It is a historic restaurant in New Orleans and it was very nice and romantic; before we ordered our food Rob kept getting up and going to the bathroom. I asked him was everything okay and he said, “yes”. We finally ordered our food and before the food came out Rob went to take a phone call, when he returned he was smiling. Rob told me that he ran into an old coworker. He was telling me the story and then I noticed my girlfriends walking up to our table. I was surprised because we were planning on meeting up with them later on that evening. The girls said they just wanted to stop by and say hey. We were standing there talking and my back was turn away from Rob. My friends were smiling really hard and looking at the table behind me. I turned around and Rob was on one knee and a beautiful ring was on the table and he asked me “If I would marry him?” and of course I said, “YES!”

For the Groom: Walk us through the behind the scenes of creating this special day:

I knew that we were going to go to New Orleans for Memorial Day weekend to hang out with Michelle’s friends, so I knew I was going to propose there. I just had to decide the perfect location. I called one of my co-workers that use to live in New Orleans and asked what restaurants would be nice to take Michelle too. He suggested Commander’s Palace and I researched it online. It was the perfect place for the proposal. I included her friends in on the proposal and I told them to surprise Michelle at dinner. I knew Michelle really wanted some of her closest friends to be there.

What was the theme of your Engagement session?

The Love in the City. We really wanted to show downtown Houston and the beauty of the city. I grew up in Houston and have always loved the downtown area; that’s why we are getting married there.

 What makes your love special?

We are truly friends first. Our love began as a friendship; just talking on the phone then later on it turned into more. Rob and I are a team and I love that about us. I know it’s cliché but I am marrying my best friend!

What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

We are looking forward to getting married and being surround by our closest family and friends. The evening is going to be filled with love and becoming one in Christ!

Have you started planning your wedding?

Yes, we have most of the wedding planning already completed. We want our guests to enjoy themselves. We have a whole weekend planned of fun events for the 4th of July weekend. Our guests can see and enjoy the city of Houston and see us get married. Our wedding will be a classic and elegant affair with beautiful blush, gold, and navy colors.

Congrats to the happy couple Michelle and Robert! We wish you a wonderful wedding and marriage.
