Real Engagements {Kentucky}: Ronesha & Lavon! – Blackbride.com

Ronesha and Lavon met during a summer program hosted by the University of Louisville in 2005. The two reconnected in 2008 when they saw each other on campus. They would walked past each other every day, merely waving to say hi never realizing that one day they would have a powerful bond. In 2009, Ronesha and Lavon played a few hands of the card game UNO. Lavon placed a bet that if he won the final game then Ronesha would have to go out on a date with him. As you can see, Lavon won the game because here they are today. Ronesha and Lavon have been together for 5 years and are planning a "Vintage Chic" wedding next fall.  Check out their super chic, vintage inspired engagement shoot captured by Seriously Sabrina Photography !

Engagement story from the bride-to-be :

It was a long day and we had just finished several tours around the city of Venice. I was beginning to get very hungry and we had just finished a tour of Saint Mark's Basilica located in the Saint Mark’s Square. Our tour group was huddled around our tour guide listening to him wrap up the tour and dismiss us to enjoy food and drink in the area. He started rambling about how Saint Marks square was a special place for people and even more special for others. In my head I was beginning to get irritated because I was ready to eat and I didn’t know who or what he was referencing to. I began to zone out until I heard him call Lavon’s name. My mind started to wonder, “okay, what is going on, why did he just call his name?” Lavon started talking and giving a speech on how happy he was to be with me and stated confessing his love for me. He got down on one knee and everyone around us started crowding in oohing and awing. He pulled out a decorated box with an Italian skyline painted on it and opens it with a beautiful ring inside. He then proceeds to ask me to marry him and I said YES!

For the Groom: Walk us through the behind the scenes of creating this special day:

Creating the special day is never easy. You could always make the safe option and do it at dinner or invite the family over for a get together but like our relationship I always want to be different and unique. My first thought was to do it at the Falls of the Ohio. This is a location right between the Indiana and Kentucky border that became “our place” or relaxation area. But with a trip to beautiful and romantic Italy I thought that that would be much more special. As I purchased the engagement ring I was able to get the ring box designed by a good friend who is a painter with the Italian twist. My next step consisted of finding the perfect place. I called around to tour agencies, did research, and looked at pictures for days thinking about what would be the perfect place and right timing. After much thought, St. Mark’s Square was the most romantic with the scenery, music, birds flying in the wind, and open area. This process took me several months to plan. Ronesha always stated that she wanted to have a videographer and photographer during the proposal. Once we arrived I asked the tour guide would he please do me a great favor. I told him my plans and how to work our camera. On the day in Venice I was very nervous and had to wear cargo pants to hide the box. Once the time came for me to ask we had the ring, location, videographer, photographer, and everything was perfect.

What was the theme of your Engagement session?

The theme for our engagement session was vintage. We love the 30s-70s eras, we tried to put a modern spin on that. We incorporated all the things we love to do in our photo shoot, things that describe us and our relationship. We started dating over a game of Uno, we love to travel and most of our date nights end up at the movies.

What makes your love special?

What makes our love special is that we are passionate, committed, and unique. It is the way that we both came together. Having met in the past and then reuniting at college. What makes it special is that when you walk pass someone everyday never knowing what the future may hold for you and that individual. Then how God brings you together by chance. Instead of running from it you continue to work hard to build a relationship. A lot of couples don’t make it through and out of college. You learn to adapt and grow together. One of the main things that keeps our love strong and makes us special is that we include each other in our lives. If it is something that he/she likes it should always be a duty to get involved. We are special because we create joint goals and stick to making them into fruition together as one. We are passionate because we love strong, committed to never give up on the other person, and unique that we continue to keep our love interesting. That is just a few things that makes our love special.

What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

We are looking forward to getting married for one, and also watching all of our family and friends get together under one roof to celebrate what God has brought together.

Have you started planning your wedding?

Yes, we have started planning our special day. It will be at a beautiful castle and it will be a 3 day weekend for our intermittent families and wedding party. We will have the entire castle to ourselves for the entire weekend. For our guests, they will see a lot of diamonds and pearls, because both are a girl’s best friend.

Congrats to Ronesha and Lavon! We wish you a wonderful wedding and marriage.
