Real Weddings {Atlanta}: Melanie & Gregory! – Blackbride.com

Melanie and Gregory met in September of 2008. Melanie was attending Spelman College and was renting her first apartment, Greg was the maintenance man and was supposed to be fixing her dishwasher, but left with her phone number instead! Check out their classic wedding at the Georgian Club in Atlanta, GA, captured by Meredith Eybelman of C and K Photography!

Bride: Melanie Goolsby, 27, TV programmer

Groom: Gregory Goolsby, 30, Field Technician

Place of residence: Atlanta, GA

Wedding date: 9/6/14

Honeymoon Destination: Mal Pais, Costa Rica!

Engagement story:

After almost 5 full years of dating Greg purposed on July 4th, 2013. Purchasing a condo in downtown Atlanta the year before, it was the first time we would be able to see the fireworks right on our rooftop with family and friends! While the fireworks were going off, Greg got down on one knee!

From the Bride:

I was a very calm bride. I woke up feeling excited and ready to begin the day! I even made a Waffle House run while my girls were getting their hair and make-up done! Everything flowed smoothly until 10 minutes before my wedding was to start. Literally at 5:50pm it started raining and my outside ceremony was ruined! I had expressed several times, I was praying it wouldn’t rain but after obsessing over the weather for the previous month, I knew there was a chance. Everyone around me was apologizing and trying to keep hope alive but I was so calm and happy, I said let’s just move it in!!! We did and everything worked out perfect!

From the Groom:

I was nervous that morning up until my boys showed up. We talked, reminisced about old times and laughed which helped calm my nerves. I was doing well until I saw the rain and knew Mel was probably freaking out upstairs. I told everyone we were going to wait the rain out for as long as she wanted. To my surprise, the wedding coordinator came down shortly after and told me Mel was fine with moving it in. To me that was the only hiccup, other than that we had a great day. Everything looked great and I know Mel was happy!

What makes your love special?

We have VERY different backgrounds and stories. Melanie was a military brat and spent most of her life in SEATTLE, WA before moving to Atlanta to attend Spelman College. Greg was born and raised in Decatur, GA and all his friends are the ones he attended elementary school and played t-ball with. Melanie can be a bit proper, while Greg has an intense southern drawl. Despite all of what one would think would divide us, those are the very things we love and that attracted us to each other! We constantly remind ourselves that our differences are the best thing about us! From maintenance man and resident to husband and wife!

Wedding song:

"Looking For Love," by Mul-Ty. Never having heard the song before, Greg introduced it to me and told me he wanted it to be a part of our wedding day. I was so touched by the words I agreed and we decided to make it our first dance song.

Memorable Moments:

About 2 months before our wedding, we decided to combine our mother/son & father/daughter dance into one and do a fun dance! We practiced with our very nervous parents until a day before the wedding. It was truly a blast and one of the most memorable parts of our wedding. See video here!

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?

We are most looking forward to raising a family together and just enjoying each other!

Advice for a Bride/Groom on their wedding day:

For the bride: Its going to fly by, so take every moment you can to take it all in and enjoy!! Every minute decision, argument and minute of stress will be all worth it. Oh, and from the words of the minister who married us, “what do you do when it rains on your wedding day? YOU GET MARRIED ANYWAY!”
For the Groom: If you are anything like me, as long as she’s happy I’m happy…so make sure she is happy!

Congratulations to newlyweds Melanie and Gregory! We wish you many more years of wedded bliss.
