1. DON'T bust the piggy bank Source: Nubride.com

Budgets are in place for a reason. Stepping outside of your budget and trying on dresses that are too expensive will only lead to a depressing and frustrating experience. Dresses that cost more have better fabrics, cuts, embellishments etc. Because of this, it is easy to fall in love with a dress that is out of your budget. However, it's best to eliminate stress by not even trying on things you cannot afford. Take your time and research dress shops and do not visit shops that carry dresses outside of your price range. This will be extremely helpful when shopping as you can browse through the shop openly without budget being a concern.

2. Be open minded

Being open minded when shopping for your wedding gown will only benefit you. Often times the dress or dress shape you envision is not the best for your body type, theme or venue. Allow yourself to step outside of your comfort zone and be open to the opinions of people you value the most. Trying on a dress in each shape is always a great starting point. This is helpful for brides who have no idea what they like as well as brides who have a definite direction only because you can eliminate the shape you dislike, which will make shopping time more efficient for yourself and everyone involved.

3. Best Friends ONLY!  Source: Mecca Gamble Photography

Do not invite your entire group of family and friends to go bridal shopping. It only ends up in way too many opinions and yours being lost. Invite those closest to you and make a full day of it. Go to breakfast, enjoy shopping and end the day with a trip to the spa or a sleepover. Having people there whose opinions you value will allow you to speak your mind and listen to those who have your very best interest at heart. Also, this allows you to truly enjoy your bridal shopping experience as most bridal shops have limited seating and some will limit the amount of guest you can bring. If you happen to have a very large circle break up the days and take a different group each day it will make your search for the perfect gown seamless.

4. Wear decent undergarments

Ladies, trying on dresses can be a humbling experience. Often times a bridal consultant will be helping you in and out of your dresses. Wearing proper undergarments will not only save you some embarrassing moments but it will give you a better idea of what the dress will look like on your big day. You should wear a supportive half bra, full panties and supportive wear such a spanx if you feel that will be necessary for the dresses of your choice. Being prepared in this way will definitely make your shopping days more productive.

5. Be in peace about your decision

When you find a dress you love feel free to LOVE IT! Do not feel pressured to visit every dress shop in your area. Over shopping can be just as difficult as under shopping. Presenting yourself with too many options can make the dress buying decision way more difficult than it has to be. If you get tears when putting a gown on, simply cannot stop thinking about a specific dress or can't seem to take off a dress. It’s the one! Commit and be at peace with your perfect dress.
