Real Weddings {South Carolina}: Felicia & Anthony! – Blackbride.com

Felicia and Anthony met a little over two years ago at a social lounge in Brooklyn. They were both out with friends and managed to lock eyes on the dance floor. Anthony walked over to introduce himself to Felicia. After moments of small talk and laughs, they danced the rest of the night away. The next morning Felicia sent a mass "Happy Easter" text to the contacts in her cell phone. Anthony quickly called back and asked her out on a post church brunch date. Felicia of course answered yes, and the rest is history! Check out their classic Black & White wedding at Brakefield at Riverwalk in Rock Hill, S.C., captured by Jonathan Keitt of Designs by JK!

Bride: Felicia Walker, 30, School Counselor/Health and Wellness Coach

Groom: Anthony Walker, 34, Financial Advisor

Place of residence: Brooklyn, NY

Wedding date: 6/28/14

Wedding location: Rock Hill, SC (Felicia’s hometown)

Honeymoon Destination: Punta Cana, DR

Engagement story:

It happened one year and 2 months after we initially met. Our first date was on April 8, so we always try to do something special on the 8th of each month. Well, it was June 8, but I knew something different was up because Anthony insisted that I get my nails done that same morning and was very adamant about choosing the perfect polish. After a morning in the salon, he and I went to see The Lion King on Broadway and concluded with a dinner at Aureole. We talked and laughed throughout dinner, but I noticed that Anthony kept excusing himself from the table. Just before dessert, Anthony gently grabbed my hand, got down on one knee and asked for my hand in marriage. I answered yes, and the entire restaurant cheered! We capped off our night with a delicious dessert, compliments of the chef.

From the Groom:

For the most part, I was calm because I knew this woman was truly sent from God. As a couple, we prayed over our wedding day on countless occasions, so I knew that everything was going to be wonderful. As I waited for my beautiful bride to come down the aisle, I became so overwhelmed with feelings of joy that tears began to trickle down my face. There was so much love, laughter and joy throughout the entire day. By far, the most happiest and fulfilling day of my life.

From the Bride:

I felt very calm and peaceful. Everyone kept asking if I was nervous or had cold feet, but I felt really good, really happy. The weatherman predicted thunderstorms that day, but I knew everything was going to be beautiful, and it was. Not a drop of rain fell the entire day. I was so pleased with the decorations, the venue and the overall ambiance. The entire place was filled with love, and I was overjoyed by all the expressions of love we received from each our guests. It was the best day ever! I felt like a princess who finally married her handsome prince.

What makes your love special?

Our love is special because we both took time to develop our relationships with Christ before entering marriage. Our union with God has been essential in learning how to love one other unconditionally and selflessly. He (God) mended a lot of our deep rooted “heart issues” allowing us to walk freely in our love towards one another.

Your best/most memorable moment:

We had so many amazing moments! It’s hard to choose just one. For me, it was when Anthony read the letter he had written to me prior to our wedding day. We agreed that we would exchange kind words during the ceremony before saying our actual vows. What Anthony said was absolutely beautiful. I could tell that every word came straight from his heart. At that moment, I was reassured that he was the man God created specifically for me.

Favorite wedding detail:

Instead of a traditional cake, we decided to have a cupcake bar. We chose 5 different flavors (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, key lime, and lemon). The best part was biting into the surprise of which flavor it would be! Each cupcake was very delicious and perfectly made.

Wedding song, explain choice for song:

Just Getting Started by Kevin Levar. It starts off with the words, “this will forever be the day that we say I do, and fifty years from now you’ll still be my boo.” The lyrics spoke to the both of us. We are essentially just getting started. There’s a long road ahead of us, but together we can accomplish so many amazing things. This song directly speaks to our feelings toward one another and the immense amount of love we share. Best wedding song ever!

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?

We are looking forward to building and growing together. We know that where we are today, we won’t be next year, and we are excited about the growth that comes along with marriage. We’re eager to grow our family, to build our dream home and to walk in our purpose together. One of our goals is to counsel engaged or newlywed couples through the process of building a strong marital foundation. Together there are so many things that we hope to accomplish, but most importantly, we want to inspire and encourage others.

Advice for a Bride/Groom on their wedding day:

Our advice is to take a moment to yourselves to take it all in. The whole day seems to go by within seconds. Take a moment to sit, look out at everyone who came to support you, the beautiful decorations and your spouse. There’s so much to celebrate on your wedding day. Try not to get so caught up in the rush of everything that you miss the moment to enjoy it all with your new spouse.

Congrats to newlyweds Felicia and Anthony! We wish you many more years of wedded bliss!
