Real Engagements {Bahamas}: Chinenye & Olisa ! – Blackbride.com

Chinenye and Olisa met at Olisa's cousins graduation cookout, who happened to be really good friends of Chinenye's family. "My cousin Princess and I just got to the cookout and went straight to the backyard. We were there for a couple of minutes, when Olisa's aunt came and brought me over to Olisa who was sitting with his uncle and introduced us. I thought this was very awkward, since it happened so randomly. We greeted each other and went our separate ways. I really didn’t know how to feel about that whole situation," recalls Chinenye. However, later that evening the two would get a chance to get better acquainted. "Olisa and I ended up meeting again [that night], this time we spoke for quite a bit of time. We ended up exchanging numbers, still at this time I didn’t think anything of it. The day after the cookout, his cousins had a graduation party. We met there and danced a little bit. A couple of days after that, my family and I went on a family vacation to Mexico, so we did not speak for about two weeks. When I got back from our vacation, we decided to go on a date and the rest was history," said Chinenye. The two are planning a romantic "Blush and Gold" themed wedding, next spring at the Mechanics Hall in Worcester, MA.Check out their tropical beach themed engagement session, captured by Lyndah Wells Photography.

Engagement story:

It all happened a day before my birthday on October 8, 2012. We had recently been talking about going to the Top of the Hub in Boston for dinner, so I assumed that was where we were going. As we started to drive, I realized that we were not going in that direction. To my surprise we ended up at the Odyssey boat cruise. As we entered, we were greeted by their staff, and we were seated at a reserved ocean view table with flowers and a bottle of wine waiting on the table. Everything caught me by surprise. We ate, danced, and toured the boat while enjoying each others company. I was still clueless that he was going to propose that night as we were almost getting towards the end of the night. Then the DJ made an announcement that it was the last song of the night. Olisa tried to convince me to come on the dance floor with him for one last dance, I was too full from all of the good food to dance, so I nicely declined. He kept on asking so I gave in. As we started dancing, I noticed that he put his hand in his pocket and brought out a box, at that moment he went down on one knee. As soon as I realized what he was doing, I started to panic lol (in a good way), all the other people on the cruise with us realized what was going on and started clapping. I tend to be shy when it comes to being around a big crowd. So with my eyes covered, still in shock, Olisa was on one knee making his speech. The only thing I remember him saying is Will you marry me? I replied with a YES!!! The only picture we have of the proposal was taken by a stranger, we did not have any of our friends or families with us. So when she came to us to show us her phone, we were extremely happy that someone caught this special moment for us. If not we wouldn't have had any pictures of the proposal.

What makes your love special?

To know that I have found someone who loves me for who I am with my flaws and all, is such a great feeling. To know that I have a partner that I can grow with and vice versa, who will be there standing by my side through thick and thin is also a bonus.

What was the theme for your engagement shoot?

We did not have a certain theme. We went to Bahamas for my birthday, and we decided since we are in an amazing location, why not do our engagement shoot there.

What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

Seeing his face while I walk down the aisle. Also how all the decorations will come together.

Congratulations to Chinenye and Olisa on your engagement! We wish you a wonderful wedding day and marriage!
