Real Engagements {Kansas City}: Stacy & Eric! – Blackbride.com

Stacy and Eric met in August of 2010 and have been together for almost 4 years. The two met at a local social event called “First Fridays." Stacy was attending the event with a close friend, who happened to know Eric as well. Eric approached the ladies and sparked a conversation. After several minutes of him conversing only with their mutual friend, Eric finally built up the nerve to speak to Stacy. Eric told Stacy that he had seen her a few times prior to that moment.  It turns out that they had worked at the same agency for a year prior to them formally meeting each other.  Stacy hadn't noticed him then but she was happy that the right time for them to meet had finally come around. The couple has planned a romantic destination wedding in Riviera Maya, Mexico, next spring. Check out their outdoor engagement session, inspired by the Song of Solomon and captured by MonPhotography.

Engagement story from the bride-to-be:

August 19, 2013…we were well into our cruise on the magnificent Norwegian Sky, while coasting the Atlantic Ocean towards the Bahamas. This day was also significant because it was my 29th birthday. I remember as we were getting ready for dinner that evening, and Eric seemed quite anxious. As he sat hunched over his knees with his hands clasped and his eyes set at a downward stare, I kept wondering to myself what he was thinking because he seemed deep in thought. As he waited patiently for me to finish getting ready, he blurted out into the silence, "I'm going to sing to you "Beauty" (a song by Dru Hill) after dinner tonight.” He indicated that he would ask for a special request at one of the lounges that evening because he knew that song is one of my favorites. I was puzzled at the random nature of his venture. Finally, I was dressed and ready for the night's festivities.

Eric and I dined at a restaurant that evening overlooking the Atlantic Ocean front. He seemed very engaged, but not as vibrant as normal. However, there came a moment where we noticed that the restaurant staff were singing happy birthday melodies to different individuals at varying moments. At that point Eric excused himself from the table to go to the restroom. When I looked over my shoulder a few short moments later, I saw Eric speaking to the hostess and I thought to myself that perhaps he needs directions to the restroom. A few minutes thereafter Eric returned to the table, and a crew of waiters and waitresses subsequently gathered around and presented me with a birthday cake and sung out celebratory tunes. During the entire time I was being serenaded, Eric was filming with his camera. After the crew members ended their melody I began to indulge in my birthday cake, however Eric continued to film. I told him he could put his camera away since the song was over, but instead he gave his camera to the hostess that I saw him speaking to moments before.

I was taken aback while trying to figure out the meaning of this moment, and then in the most poetic way, Eric laid down his heart…. “I want you to know that there is no man that can love you the way that I can. For my love runs deeper than the sea and higher than the clouds above. The love that I have for you will bring new meaning to the word called love. Only God can love you more dearly than me. As of any other man, that is not even a possibility. My love is not based on what we have or the things of the past, but our hearts and souls which are destine to last. I will always love you like you are the last woman on this earth. I will provide you with all I have, and all I am worth. If I were to die today and be put into my eternal hole, you will still have to deal with the love of my soul. With that being said, will you marry me?”  With my heart pounding out of my chest, tears welled up in my eyes, and every heavy breath suffocating my ability to speak…I spoke out and said yes!

Engagement story from the groom- to- be:

Prior to the big proposal, I had things I needed to take care of. First thing on the list was calling Stacy’s mother and father. I had a good relationship with her mom which was a done deal, but calling Mr. Prudhomme was one of the most nerve wrecking thing I have every had to do. I never met him in person because he lives in California, and this would be my first time every speaking with him over the phone. However, I knew this was something that must be done. Once I gave him a call, we talked for a long time and he gave me his blessings, which I was very grateful for. Secondly, I wanted to memorize this poem that my dad wrote a long time ago. When I read it ten years ago, I knew I wanted to use it for either my wedding or my proposal. I am a little impatient sometimes so I decided to do it for the proposal instead. Lastly, I purchased a simple, but elegant, princess cut diamond ring. All aboard! We set sail on the Atlantic Ocean towards the beautiful Bahamas. I had my essentials packed, blessings from her father, my memorized poem, and the diamond ring to seal the deal. At this point, I just need to calm my nerves with deep breathing, keep the ring hidden from Stacy (nosy), practice my poem a hundred million times, and find the right time to do it. August 19, 2013, I found the perfect time! We were at a formal candlelit dinner, and the curtains were opened wide enough to see the beautiful waters brushing up against the boat. Soft music played in the background. Ironically, I was looking at the most beautiful birthday girl sitting across from me. I took a quick restroom break to devise a plan to propose to her. I spoke with the head hostess about my plan, and she was all in! After the waiter and waitress came over and sang a happy birthday tune to her, I delivered the most important and life changing words to the love of my life. Once I kissed and hugged her, I knew I made the best decision of my life.

Our love is special because it is transparent.   The most raw and yet purest moments have evolved from us just committing to growth and becoming better. We submit to a continuous effort of giving 100% and expecting zero.

What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

We are most looking forward to the actual marriage! We cannot wait to become “husband” and “wife”.

Have you started planning your wedding?

We are getting married in Riviera Maya, Mexico! Our wedding colors are peach and mint green with golden accents. Our wedding ceremony will take place on the Caribbean coastline just before sunset.

Congratulations to Stacy and Eric! We wish you a wonderful wedding day and marriage.
