We got a chance to catch up with Amber Knowles of the Amber Studio to chat all things weddings, especially how to capture amazing moments on your wedding day. Check out Amber's top 5 tips on how to get the best wedding photos and how to enjoy your day while doing it!

As a wedding photographer and the owner of The Amber Studio, I’ve come up with a few helpful tips for successful wedding planning that I am always sure to share with all of the couples that allow me to capture their unforgettable event. Your wedding is a day that you want to be sure you have great memories of that last a lifetime, and you should be sure that you are able to have every moment and memory collected for a lifetime. Here are five of those tips:

1. Hire a professional.

Never underestimate the value of a professional wedding photographer. Many people these days have taken a hobbyist interest in photography and own really nice cameras. There is great value in hiring someone who has trained in the art of photography, has a greater understanding of angles and lighting, and has the measurable and priceless experience in the nuances of weddings. They will be prepared to capture the best photos under ANY circumstances.

2. Communicate.

Although you have hired a professional, understand that your wedding will have its own unique details that your photographer may not know if you do not share with him or her. While photographers are there to capture your day, we won't know who your Aunt Mary is, who has taken her first ever plane ride just to attend your wedding, unless someone points her out to us. And that's one photo we don't want to miss! I always suggest to my couples to designate someone who knows everyone’s faces and relationship to the bridal party, and has been close enough to your wedding planning to know the details to be my event guide.

3. Manage your time.

There is nothing worse than feeling stressed and rushed, especially on your wedding day. This is just one reason I highly recommend that my couples work with wedding planners. There are so many different things that can go awry on a wedding day, and it’s extremely common for scheduled events to run later than anticipated. Ideally, my clients have designated tasks to other people on their wedding days, and some brides and grooms even hand over their mobile phones to a friend or family member! Let someone else deal with the worry so you can focus on being present. If you have hired a professional photographer who has the experience of being involved with countless other weddings prior to yours, she will understand how the day's schedule will flow and will be able to manage your photography schedule to help you establish realistic expectations for your photography throughout the day as well as for family and wedding party formals.

4. Be true to your style.

It's really important to make sure the overall style of your wedding is a reflection of you and your fiancé. Throughout your wedding planning process, everyone will have an opinion! From where your venue should be to the flavor of your cake to who you should or should not make the final guest list cut, expect many opinions – most of which you may not be so willing to accommodate. While your loved ones may have your best in mind, keep them out of your wallet and don't allow their opinions to cloud your desires on your wedding day. If you've had your heart set on wearing that black Vera Wang dress, do it! They can wear what they want on their days, and they will still love you. Besides they will scream with delight once they see how amazing that dress fits you!

5. Be present.
And last but not least, remember to be present! After months and months, and for some, a year or more of planning, this one day will fly by. So be present. Actually listen to your guests' well wishes instead of thinking about who else you have to talk to next. And get up and dance when your favorite song comes on, even if there's no one else on the dance floor just yet. This is your day, so let loose and have fun! Smile! There is nothing I love more than capturing you at your most relaxed and happiest.
