Real Weddings {Miami}: Amesha & Patrick! – Blackbride.com

Amesha and Patrick met in 2009. Amesha was living and working in New Orleans, LA. and would come to Florida to visit her best friend Crystal, who was attending grad school in Florida. One night while Amesha and Crystal were hanging out in downtown Orlando, they ran into Patrick and his group of friends. However, it was Crystal and Patrick’s friend Eddie that exchanged numbers. Patrick wasn’t too interested in Amesha once he heard that she lived out of state. However, a couple of weeks later, Patrick decided to ask Crystal more about her best friend Amesha. Patrick then looked Amesha up on Facebook and the two started talking. "I accepted his request and we started talking non-stop. First it was all done online, and then it quickly turned into phone calls that lasted until the wee hours of the morning," said Amesha about her online encounters with Patrick.  After a while, Patrick took a leap of faith and decided to visit Amesha in New Orleans and the rest is history! The two spent the next couple of months taking trips back and forth to New Orleans and Florida. As fate would have it,  they both got jobs in Kansas City, MO and have been together ever since. Engagement story (From the Groom):

Proposing to Amesha was not the easiest task in the world. There were different steps that needed to be completed before being able to “pop the question.” First I asked her mother and father for her hand in marriage. Then I had to figure out a way to get her away from the house for a little while so that I could prepare the house for the proposal. Most of the time I get off before Amesha so it would’ve given me time to prepare the house.  However, on that specific day her job let everyone off early. As a result, I had to figure out a way to get her out of the house so I could prepare. I told her to straighten her hair, and gave her some money to go pick out a dress from her favorite store. That didn’t come without resistance because she has a VERY hard time being told what to do. She finally says okay and leaves to go get a dress for a nice date night. When she gets to the boutique she proceeds to give the owner and my friend (her chauffeur for the day) a hard time because  “it doesn’t make sense,” that she is supposed to pick out a dress when she has everything in the store already. But luckily our friends thought quickly on their feet and kept her out of the house by tempting her with a trip to get frozen yogurt. While she was gone I went online and printed out the very first conversation we ever had on Facebook, and taped it to our front door. As she walked in the house there were different sticky notes posted on numerous items in the house which noted different memorable moments that we had in our relationship (good and bad). One note in-particular mentioned the time my dog destroyed her childhood stuffed animal! These sticky notes led all the way up to the bedroom with a note that said “now we have come to this point, OPEN-ME!” In the bedroom I was standing in a suit, I sat her down on the bed, and asked her to be my wife.

From the Groom:

My wedding experience was very nice and stressful at the same time. The day of the wedding, before the ceremony was very stressful because I had to deal with my groomsmen who were very excited not only for me but to see each other and have a good time. When everything calmed down and the ceremony started it was a very emotional time for me to have all my close family and friends there and to be marrying the woman of my dreams. It was very awesome. It was a very fun day all together; I wouldn’t change anything about it.

What makes your love special?

The best part of our love and our relationship is that we stood the test of time and distance. We were long distance for about 9 months before we lived in the same city. Even when we moved to Kansas City, we didn’t move in together. We took it slow, had our own apartments, dated each other and took the time to really get to know one another.

From the Bride:

When my wedding day came around, it was sort of surreal. I couldn’t believe that a year of planning had got me to this point. Since I had been so involved with the process, it was hard to turn my brain off and enjoy the moment. Luckily I had day of coordinators that handled the logistics of the day. Otherwise I probably would have freaked out. For the most part, everything went as planned, a few mix-ups here and there, but nothing tragic. My biggest worry was weather. The ceremony was to be held outside and if it rained we would have had to move it inside. This would have devastated me. What’s the purpose of having a Fall wedding in Florida and having to have it inside? Luckily, there was nothing but blue skies. I couldn’t have asked for a better day.

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?

I am most excited about our growth as a couple. Its one thing to know who you are and what you stand for as an individual, but it’s a whole different story when two individuals become a unit. I look forward to the ups and downs, the collaborations, the laughs and the cries. I look forward to always knowing that no matter what happens there is at least one person in this world that will always have my back.

Advice for a Bride/Groom on their wedding day:

There is one thing that I have told all of our friends that gotten engaged and are getting married soon. Make sure you keep your wedding about YOU! Everyone will have an opinion about everything. Even when you don’t ask, especially when you don’t ask lol, they will feel the need to share. Take it with a grain of salt and continue to plan your wedding how you want it to be!
