Get to Know: Kisha Kingston, Owner of Royale Amethyst Invitations – Blackbride.com

Kisha Kingston is the Owner and Creative Director of Royale Amethyst Invitations, a custom stationery boutique based in New York. Kisha's entrée into the world of stationery began in December 2008, when Kisha had the opportunity to plan her sister's winter themed bridal shower. After unsuccessful attempts to find the right stationery for the occasion, she decided to get creative and design her very own.  The end result was a satisfied bride-to-be and the birth of a new venture- Royale Amethyst Invitations. Since the launch of Royale Amethyst Invitations, Kisha has serviced clients locally, nationally and internationally. Check out our interview with this "Royale" entrepreneur and stationery Queen.

1. How is your custom invitation company different from others on the stationery scene?
What makes Royale Amethyst Invitations different is my ability to think outside the box. I like to “push the envelope” with each design not limiting myself to the standard. Within our collection you will find invitations printed on Acrylic along with invitations embellished with one of kind elements such as feathers and brooches.

2. What was your inspiration for this design (image above)?
The Damask Silk Boxed Invitation comes from our couture collection and was designed during the holiday season; hence the ivory and gold color combination. My goal in designing this piece was to create an invitation that was timeless and opulent.

3. How do you come up with your designs?

I primarily come up with my designs based on the client’s vision. However, I do find inspiration in fashion, culture and nature.

4. What tips would you offer to brides who are looking to get custom invitations for their big day?

  1. Once the venue is secured, you should begin your search for invitations. Custom invitations require longer turnaround times depending on the complexity of the design. Start at least 6 month before your wedding. The earlier your start, the better!
  2. I advise brides to do their research and select a stationer that will successfully execute their vision. Ask your stationer for samples if possible so that you can see and feel the quality as well as the craftsmanship of their work.
  3. Brides should become familiar with their needs when partnering with a stationer.  Communicate your style, preferences, budget and any details regarding your potential order.

5. What is your favorite part of designing?

One of many would be my ability to successfully execute my client’s vision. Working with many brides, I have come across unique concepts for their special day. Being able to understand their style and preference, is truly the base of where my creativity derives from.

6.  Tell us about your new venture and how you partnered with Love Ink to create The Love Story Project?

The Love Story Project is a collection of Save the Dates, Invitations and Programs designed by yours truly and features professionally written love stories by Love Ink. I found the vow coaching and love story writing services at Love Ink to be quite unique and after we met, we knew that we wanted to collaborate our individual gifts of writing and designing. We figured, what better way than to offer a product and service for brides-to-be. Professionally written love stories meet innovative stationery designs–it is truly the best of both worlds! We are currently working on a Love Story Contest, inviting couples to submit their photos for a chance to win a free professionally written  and designed love story among other great perks!
