Summer is officially behind us and Fall is now in full swing! There is nothing better than a wedding with a beautiful autumn backdrop of golden bronze leaves and deep plum hues to help create a romantic scene for your big day! When it comes to incorporating the season into your wedding, what better way to do it than with flowers! We chatted with Makini Regal Brereton, owner of Makini Regal Designs, a floral design company based in New York City, to get some advice on how to create the perfect fall bouquet! What tips or advice would you offer to brides who are looking for a unique fall inspired arrangements?
Abandon all Fall-related preconceptions. Autumn isn’t confined to brightly colored leaves, branches or pine cones. Unless, of course, that’s what you love. You can have a beautiful fall arrangement that’s complemented with deep rich hues of classic flowers like calla lilies and dahlias.
What are the best flowers to use in the fall?
I always choose flowers that compliment the bride, but I truly love the deepest purple, almost black, calla lilies like the ones I used in the featured arrangement. They provide a decadent elegance. When selecting fall flowers, start with your favorite seasonal bloom. Once you’ve done that, choose the perfect jewel-tone shade to add to your arrangement and voilà, you’re done!
What advice can you give brides and grooms who want great flowers on a budget?
Don’t be afraid to mix high and low. Dahlias are exquisite yet relatively inexpensive. Then you can pair that with orchids or calla lilies that tend to be a little pricier. When flowers are arranged beautifully, looks can be deceiving!

What is your main inspiration behind your floral design concepts?
We strive to be unique, yet timeless. Our designs strike a very fine balance – we fuse the beauty of classic flowers with a bold pop of modern elements.
What makes your floral design services different from other companies?
Unlike a large commercial florist, the same person that listens to your vision, conceptualizes your piece. So the day before an event, I’m in the flower district at 5 a.m. hand-picking every stem that goes into your arrangements. We find that a personal approach makes for a successful event.
